UPS providing voluntary buyouts to drivers — a transfer slammed by Teamsters

Parcel large UPS stated on Thursday it is going to provide voluntary buyouts to its full-time US drivers as a part of the biggest community reconfiguration in its historical past — a sweeping overhaul that features chopping 20,000 jobs and shutting 73 amenities.
The Atlanta-based firm had in April introduced a community reconfiguration plan following a discount in deliveries for its key buyer, Amazon, and amid President Trump’s tariffs.
The buyout package deal is along with any retirement advantages comparable to pension and healthcare, the corporate stated in a press release.

The Teamsters union, which represents about 330,000 employees at UPS, was first to announce the buyout plans, calling them an “unlawful violation” of the nationwide contract, below which UPS had dedicated to create 22,500 extra jobs.
“Our members can’t be purchased off and we won’t permit them to be bought out,” stated Sean O’Brien, normal president of the union.

“UPS must reside as much as the present contract. They need to honor their commitments.”
UPS stated it intends to stick to the phrases of its contract with the union.
