Man set to be sentenced in drunk driving loss of life of Nassau County Police Officer Patricia Espinosa
NASSAU COUNTY, New York (WABC) — A person is about to be sentenced in a drunk driving crash that killed an off-duty Nassau County police officer.
Matthew Smith, 20, pleaded responsible to operating a pink mild at 70 miles per hour whereas intoxicated and slamming into officer Patricia Espinosa’s car in Lake Grove again in January.
His passenger was additionally significantly injured.
Espinosa, 42, was driving to work on the time of the incident.
She is survived by her toddler daughter and husband, Francisco Malaga, who can be Nassau County police officer.
Smith faces as much as 22 years in jail.
