Kim, Menendez go to Newark detention heart as detainees stage starvation strike
NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) — Members of Congress paid a go to to Delaney Corridor, the controversial migrant detention heart in Newark.
Sen. Andy Kim and Rep. Robert Menendez Jr. have been there Saturday to help detainees who’ve begun a starvation strike.
The protest began round 4 a.m., with contributors complaining that the meals they’re being served is spoiled.
Kim and Menendez say they’re pushing for greater than improved situations, they’re calling for the discharge of everybody being held on the facility.
“They talked about inhumane remedy. They talked concerning the poor meals. They talked concerning the water tasting disgusting. I actually drank from the fountain,” Sen. Kim mentioned. “It is definitely issues that we’d like to verify we’re following up on.”
Kim mentioned he additionally met with a number of 18-year-old women who would have been graduating highschool if not for his or her arrests.
