Brooklyn man ticketed after displaying off unlawful Burmese python close to Coney Island boardwalk

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (WABC) — A Brooklyn man is dealing with a cost after environmental conservation officers say he was caught displaying off a big Burmese python to a crowd in Coney Island.

The incident occurred July 12 close to the Riegelmann Boardwalk, in keeping with the New York State Division of Environmental Conservation.

An Environmental Conservation Officer noticed a big snake surrounded by a couple of dozen folks, together with babies.

The DEC stated the person, who had a second snake – a ball python – wrapped round his neck, was dealing with the bigger snake and displaying it to the gang.

When questioned by the officer, the person recognized the bigger snake as a Burmese python and admitted that he owned it, in keeping with the DEC.

Burmese pythons are categorized as harmful animals and are unlawful to own in New York State.

The person was issued a ticket for unlawful possession and the Burmese python was confiscated.

One other environmental conservation officer helped switch the snake to the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Officers say Burmese pythons can pose a hazard to folks and may severely influence native wildlife populations if they’re launched or launched into the setting.

The DEC didn’t determine the snake’s proprietor.
