NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller homicide trial, widow, spouse takes the stand
QUEENS (WABC) — The widow of an NYPD detective who was shot and killed in Queens in 2024 took the stand on Thursday.
Detective Jonathan Diller’s spouse, Stephanie Diller, gave emotional testimony concerning the demise of her husband.
Thursday is the third day of testimony in the homicide trial of the accused killer, Man Rivera.
Stephanie testified the day her husband was murdered, they each had taken off of labor to spend high quality time collectively after which he acquired referred to as into work. She stated the final time she spoke to him, he was going to skip him meal break to return house early to have dinner along with her. Then 18 minutes later, he was useless.
“My neighbor referred to as and requested, ‘Have you ever heard from John?’ A cop from the a hundred and tenth simply acquired shot. I advised her I simply talked to him it is not him,” Stephanie stated.
The younger mom advised the courtroom that she had simply gotten off of the cellphone along with her husband at 5:30 p.m.
“I began texting ‘John, hey, are you okay?’ however once I noticed his location, I noticed that he was positioned at Jamaica Hospital,” Stephanie stated.
Round 5:48 p.m., the scene in Far Rockaway confirmed a Kia Soul with a shattered window, a handgun, and ammunition in full view, and Rivera was on the bottom in handcuffs.
Stephanie stated her husband’s supervisor referred to as her.
“I simply answered the cellphone and stated, ‘Is it him?’ He stated, ‘Yeah.’ I stated, ‘How unhealthy?’ He stated, ‘Steph, it is unhealthy. They will come get you.’ I hung up the cellphone, and I circled, and there was an officer on the door,” Stephanie stated.
The 31-year-old’s voice was cracking as she described being transported to the hospital by an NYPD Helicoper and ready with household for docs to return and speak to them.
“I may see it in his eyes. I stated, ‘Did he die, did he die? And he stated, ‘Sure, I am sorry,” Stephanie testified.
The couple has a son, who was 15 months outdated on the time. He’s now 3 years outdated.
Courtroom will resume on Monday.
