MENDHAM, New Jersey (WABC) — An almost 300-year-old tavern in New Jersey was broken by a fireplace early Monday.

Firefighters responded to an alarm that went off on the Black Horse Tavern and Pub in Mendham simply earlier than 4 a.m.

Firefighters requested help from neighboring cities after encountering heavy smoke situations.

The restaurant, which had been closed for renovations, was empty on the time.
